Natural Hair Loss Treatment - The Lost Art Of Hair Repair

Sunday, 21 June 2009

While there are certainly a number of medical treatments that offer great results, experts say that natural hair loss treatment can yield some of the best benefits for anyone concerned about the health of their hair. Most people choose to treat their hair loss with medications or surgery, such as Minoxidil or hair transplantation. However many people fail to realize that medication and surgery are costly and may carry some harmful side effects and risks. The safest and most cost efficient form of hair loss therapy is natural hair loss treatment, which includes healthy dieting, herbal remedies, exercise and proper hair care techniques. Natural hair loss treatment has become the “Lost Art” of hair repair and is often neglected as a form of treatment among the very pricey alternatives.

A fundamental principal in natural hair loss treatment is that the same foods that are good for your health, are good for your hair. Although hair loss can be caused by many other variables, lack of proper nutrition will cause hair loss in most people. Foods that are high in protein, low in carbohydrates, and have reduced fat content can help in maintaining healthier hair and preventing hair loss. For example, essential fatty acids, found in spinach, walnuts, soy, tuna, sardines, sunflower seeds and canola oil, are important dietary essentials useful in keeping hair healthy. The omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids contain anti-inflammatory properties that are useful in maintaining healthy hair. Insufficient levels of these essential fatty acids could lead to quicker hair loss.

A deficiency in vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 can also lead to excessive hair loss. Foods containing B vitamins, like liver, chicken, fish and soybean are important to healthy hair growth and natural hair loss treatment. Both vitamin B6 and vitamin B12 are found in protein rich foods, which are needed to maintain natural hair growth. B vitamins are very essential to one’s diet in order to prevent excessive hair loss. Certain vitamins and nutritional supplements are often necessary to restore protein levels which in turn, are useful in preventing hair loss. Increasing vitamin B intake in one’s diet is a successful way to prevent or treat your hair loss naturally.

Alongside the concept of healthy eating of vitamins, minerals and nutrients are also the use of herbal remedies that are effective in preventing hair loss as a natural hair loss treatment. Among the herbs making medical headlines is Saw Palmetto. Although most studies of Saw Palmetto have been for the treatment of prostatic disease, more recent studies have been conducted on its effectiveness in treating hair loss. The herb has been found to work in fighting benign prostatic disease by lowering levels of DHT, which is a known cause of androgenic alopecia, the medical term for male or female pattern hair loss. While there are no clinical trials supporting this herb’s usefulness as a natural hair loss treatment, there is some reliable research proving that it can slow down androgen activity within the hair follicle.

Nettles, usually taken in the form of Nettle Root Extract, has shown itself to be effective in preventing hair loss as well. Nettles are rich in vitamins A and C, that are beneficial in inhibiting DHT production and promoting hair growth as a natural hair loss treatment. Other traditional herbs that are useful as natural hair loss treatments are green tea, licorice extract, horsetail, ginger, psoralea seeds, apple cider vinegar, rosemary and sage tea.

Research is constantly discovering modern forms of natural hair loss treatments. The list of treatments summarized in this article are only a fraction of the available natural therapies for hair loss. Everyone has some hair loss from day to day. In fact, it is normal to lose up to 100 strands of hair a day. However, some people lose a lot more hair than expected, due to genetic reasons, disease, medications, stress, injury, or an unhealthy diet. Regardless of the cause of hair loss, natural hair loss treatment, involving changes in diet and lifestyle, is the safest form of preventive hair treatment around. Catching your hair loss in its early stages and treating it naturally is among the best lines of defense in preventing excessive hair loss and the safest method for treating it.

Hair loss in men

Hair loss and thinning hair have been sensitive issues for men throughout time. Recently, medical science has eventually identified the main cause of hair loss. At present, it's a known medical fact that hair loss stems from both genetic and hormonal causes. Androgenetic Alopecia or even "male pattern hair loss" is implicated in ninety five percent of hair loss cases. The key is a hormonal byproduct called DHT (dihydrotestostrone). The even more DHT that gets put into your body, the even more your hair follicles turn into thinner and finer until the hair is permanently wasted.

DHT and hair loss

DHT is 1 of many male hormones in the body. DHT is developmentally vital early in a man's life; however, it appears to be a cause of hair loss as men get older. DHT shrinks the hair follicle until it no longer produces obvious hair.

Doctors believe that excess DHT is an apparent cause of hair loss

The causes of hair loss aren't well defined; however, researchers have uncovered that men with male pattern hair loss have increased levels of DHT in the balding area of their scalps. Individual hair usually follows a cycle of expansion, falling out, and new expansion. However increased levels of DHT are believed to contribute to the shortening of the expansion phase and a shortening of the time it takes for the hair to fall out. This results in thinning of the hair on the scalp.

Provillus blocks DHT (dihydrotestostrone) from getting to your body, which is 1 of the major causes of hair loss. The Breakthrough formula of Provillus was designed to block DHT and supply the proper foods to your body specifically tailored to block hair loss and to help you regrow hair naturally. Strong, sound hair begins with the proper nutritional building blocks. You do not have to hold off until there's a problem to end it! Provillus supplements your body's natural supply of these vitamins and lets the tiny follicles below your scalp receive exactly what they want to manufacture beautiful, full-bodied hair.

Active Ingredients For Hair Loss And Regrow Hair !

Saw Palmetto acts by lowering DHT in the body and by blocking five alpha-reductase. Saw palmetto blocks the receptor sites on cell membranes that are expected for the absorption of DHT. Since Saw palmetto blocks the employ of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) which is a similar causative factor in Androgenetic Alopecia, it's a powerful herb in this hair expansion formulation.

Nettle root blocks two enzymes, 5a-reductase, which makes the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and aromatase enzyme, which makes estrogens. Studies showed that nettle root extract was efficient in inhibiting these two enzymes which was a leading cause of hair loss.

Gotu Kola is related to the and supports the integrity of hair expansion, collagen and skin. It can help heal minor wounds and skin irritations, help assure blood vessel integrity, and promote circulation throughout the body, including to the brain. What Causes Women’s Hair Loss? A Look At 7 Common Causes Of Female Hair Loss

Sunday, 10 May 2009

Let’s face it, hair loss for anyone can be a very distressing problem but women’s hair loss can be especially distressing…

Although the causes of women’s hair loss vary from person to person, by understanding the common causes of female hair loss, this can help you find the right potential treatment or solution.

1) Hereditary thinning, or androgenetic alopecia to give its medical name, is the most common cause of women’s hair loss. The tendency to develop female pattern hair loss can be inherited from either side of the family.

Generally this leads to thinning of the hair in women rather than baldness and can start in the teens, twenties or thirties.

Unfortunately, there are no cures for hereditary female hair loss. However, there are treatments which may help some people such as minoxidil, which is a lotion applied twice daily to your scalp.

An alternative solution which women with thinning hair may consider is female hair transplantation. This procedure involves moving hair from areas of your head with normal hair growth to thinning areas.

As with all surgical procedures, you should only undertake this after taking advice from a specialist.

2) Improper hair cosmetic use is another common cause of women’s hair loss. Treatments such as bleaches, tints, hair dyes, straighteners or perms rarely damage your hair if done properly. However, overuse can cause the hair to become weak or break.

If chemical treatments cause your hair to become brittle and leads to hair loss, then it is recommended you stop the treatments until the damaged hair has grown out.

3) Alopecia areata is a type of hair loss which can affect women of any age. This usually results in hair falling out and leaving round coin sized smooth patches on the head. In rare cases there may be a total loss of hair.

Although the cause of alopecia areata in women is not clear, in time the hair usually grows back by itself. Female hair loss caused by alopecia areata can also be successfully treated by dermatologists.

4) Thyroid disease can also lead to female hair loss. Where an under or over-active thyroid condition has been diagnosed, any associated hair loss can be usually be successfully treated by your physician.

5) Severe infection, flu or a high fever can be a cause of women’s hair loss. After a bout of illness, even as much as four weeks to three months afterwards, you may be taken aback by seeing a lot of hair falling out.

This is caused by your hair going into a resting phase to redirect energy at healing. Any hair loss usually corrects itself though.

6) Some medications can also lead to women's hair loss. For example, prescription drugs used for arthritis, blood thinning, depression, gout, heart problems or high blood pressure may cause hair loss. High doses of vitamin A have also been associated with female hair loss.

7) Inadequate protein in a women’s diet can be a cause of female hair loss. If you go on a crash diet or have extreme irregular dietary habits then you may develop protein malnutrition.

As with severe illness, the body will put hair into the resting phase to conserve protein. Significant hair loss can occur two to three months later and be easily pulled out by the roots.

Hair loss can be easily reversed by ensuring you eat the correct levels of protein in your diet.

In conclusion, we have looked at several common causes of women's hair loss and suggested some solutions for treating the problem. However, because there are so many different causes of female hair loss you should always consult your physician or dermatologist to correctly diagnose your problem and the best course of action to treat it.

More About Male Pattern Hair Loss

Wednesday, 29 December 2010

Male pattern baldness occurs when hair loss exceeds growth of hair. It is a genetically inherited condition. Some women also suffer from male pattern hair loss and this is because of excessive levels of androgen in their bodies. These women also suffer from irregular menses, acne and more facial hair than others.

There are various reasons for baldness but if you are in the age range of 20 to 40 and you suffer from baldness, there are high chances that you are suffering from male pattern baldness. As the name suggests, this health condition follows a typical pattern of hair loss. You can start losing hair in different areas, but it usually starts around the crown of your head. Your hair starts thinning and over a period of years, you may become totally bald. Almost 50% of the men experience baldness at some point in their life.

Cause of male pattern baldness

Male pattern baldness depends mainly on hormones and genetics. Testosterone, a hormone present in males after puberty is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by an enzyme 5-alpha reductase. Several tissues in the body, including the scalp have DHT, which affects the hair follicle adversely. It slows down hair production, and produces weak and shorter hair. Gradually, this process depletes your hair totally.

Lupus and diabetes lead to baldness. Fungal infections are also known to cause hair loss. Excessive intake of vitamin A in the form of medicines is also a factor along with intake of birth control pills and antidepressants. Hormonal fluctuations, overactive or underactive thyroid gland, side effects of medications for chronic diseases, and stress are some of the factors that cause baldness.

Hair loss can have a significant psychological impact, depending on the severity of the same. Many men who experience hair loss suffer from low self-esteem and reduced confidence. If you lose hair suddenly, you should visit a doctor and take expert advice. Baldness can occur because of many reasons, and it can be treated successfully using medications such as Propecia.

Propecia

Finasteride, marketed as Propecia, is an FDA approved oral medication that treats male pattern baldness. There are many advantages of using it as a method of baldness treatment. It blocks the conversion of testosterone in to dihydrotestosterone. The reduction of DHT slows down hair loss, and at times, it is even reversed. Since, baldness is directly linked with DHT, this drug works by blocking it. More than 80% of men, who have taken it, experienced a rise in hair growth on their scalps.

Decrease in sex drive, loss of libido, reduced volume of semen, and Gynecomastia are some of the side effects of Propecia. It was found, that men who had taken this drug, experienced mild sexual dysfunctions as a side effect. Side effects of this drug are temporary, and once the intake of this medication is stopped, the situation returns to normal. This drug is not recommended for women and children. Most men who use this drug are happy with the results.

Hair Loss Causes And Treatment And Vitamins For Hair Growth

Tuesday, 11 January 2011

Hair loss is a normal process that involves loss of around 50 to 100 scalp hairs everyday. When hair loss starts exceeding this limit then you should start worrying about that hair loss. Baldness is a condition that results when the hair regeneration is, at an extremely slow rate compared to the hair loss rate.

Hair loss is caused by many reasons most of the time the reason is Androgenetic Alopecia also known as Male or female pattern hair loss. Telogen Effluvium is the type of hair loss that is caused from stress. The stress causes the hair in the resting phase to fall out without providing any replacement of the hair, thus resulting in baldness.

Vitamins for Hair Loss

It is already known that vitamins are vital for the health of a human being but it is a lesser known truth that regular consumption of vitamins can actually put a stop to hair loss and even encourages hair development.

The vitamins help by blocking up further production of di-hydro testosterone (DHT). The vitamins are known to mend the exhausted follicles and support the hair growth. The vitamins are also helpful in nutrifying and curing the scalp.

There can be several reasons for loss of hair including prolonged illness, hereditary conditions, tension and hormonal instabilities. Earlier hair loss was often linked with adulthood but these days changes in way of life caused people losing hair ahead of time. It is possible that the hair is not getting sufficient nutrients and is hugely lacking in vital hair growth vitamins. The majority of the problems arise from shortage of nutrition. A balanced diet rich in necessary hair loss vitamins helps in healthy hair growth.

Here are some essential vitals for hair loss:

1. Inositol: It is belonged to vitamin B group. It is a chemical, which is essential for the healthy muscles, kidney, liver, hair and the brain. When Inositol is present in the diet of an individual, it is shown to have notable effects and it helps in controlling hair loss and preventing phalacrosis.

2. Vitamin C: This is one of the most significant hair loss vitamins. Consuming Vitamin C on a regular basis enhances circulation of blood in the scalp and also guarantees that hair follicles get proper supply of rich nutrients.

Hair Loss Treatment

The treatments that occupy hair gain or the treatment for hair loss, in other words, are hair supplement (vitamins, proteins and so on), hair medication (the last resort to hair gain, arranged by a reliable and a good dermatologist/tricologist), hair massages that help in hair nurturing and hair tonics (like the Indian Shahnaz Hussain herbal tonic called Shatone for hair enlargement and vitality) and hair treatments at renowned and recognized hair salons, spas, centres and spa clinics as well.

Hair loss treatment via synthetic pills such as Propecia can lead to serious side effects like impotence, weakened libido, and decrease amount of semen production. Hair stand-in procedures can also go terribly wrong and you may end with an ugly scrap on your head and it can be painful too.

Hair Diseases Resulting Into Hair Loss

Sunday, 16 August 2009

Hair diseases and hair loss are interrelated. One cannot be thought about without the other.

Common hair loss causes

No single factor can be marked out as the universal cause of hair diseases. There are several causes varying from person to person.

The two types of hair loss diseases

The hair loss causes can be broadly divided into the following two groups – the temporary effect and the one involving a prolonged action, usually triggered by genetics.

a.)The temporary effect – Usually such cases can be cured by medications and treatments.

b.)Prolonged hair loss diseases – Such cases may require long term treatment. Sometimes the drug treatment might appear to be ineffective. In such circumstances surgery like hair transplantation may be the way.

The causes of temporary hair loss include the ones like child birth, using birth control pills, etc.

Another key factor can be hormonal imbalance. It can have a severe impact by causing pattern baldness. The latter comes in the list of major hair diseases.

Relation between hair diseases and hair loss

It is sometimes found that a particular hair loss cause is more commonly related to a particular hair disease. In this context one can refer to the acquired hair shaft defects. These defects are usually triggered by the excessive use of hair treatments and styling products.

Similarly, infectious diseases have their root in unhygienic scalp.

The common causes of hair loss diseases

The common causes of hair loss diseases include the following –

• Hormonal imbalance

• Ailment

• Faulty hair styling

• Inadequate diet

Hormonal Imbalance

In men – Hormonal imbalance is a major cause of hair loss diseases among men. The male hormone testosterone plays a key role in actuating hair loss. The enzyme 5 alpha reductase in the hair follicles turns testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). The latter is the most potent androgen promoting male pattern baldness, the common hair loss disease.

In women – Imbalance in thyroid hormone is a key cause of sudden hair loss among women. The thyroid gland’s being n the state of overactive and under active might cause hair fall. Thyroid hormones largely influence cellular metabolism of scalp proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and minerals. And the hair matrix cells are highly affected by the thyroid hormones’ excess or deficiency.

Hormonal imbalance also causes hair loss during pregnancy. Pregnancy witnesses a high level of estrogen hormones. This causes hair follicles percentage in anagen growth phase. But post-child birth there is a rapid fall in the estrogen level. Consequently a large number of hair follicles shift to a catagen phase. And gradually hair falls.

Women may also experience hair loss during post-pregnancy period. It is generally temporary in nature. But if it continues for months, then it may indicate hormonal imbalance in the body. And hormonal imbalance for an extended period requires proper treatment.

Ailment

Some of the serous ailments like high fever, severe infection, or flu may lead hair follicles to a resting phase. This condition called telogen effluvium results increased hair fall. But it is a temporary condition soon to be followed by normalcy.

Some cancer treatments also prevent the hair fiber growth. The hair becomes thin and breaks off. And gradually hair loss occurs. The condition starts within one to three weeks after the beginning of the chemotherapy treatment. The treatment may witness the patients losing up to 90 percent of their scalp hair.

Faulty hair styling

It means using certain hair styling techniques resulting in hair loss diseases like traction alopecia. In this condition the hair fibers are pulled out from the hair follicle by a hairstyle that pulls on the roots of the hair fibers. One example of such faulty hair styling is braiding cornrowing. Cosmetic treatments like bleaching, coloring or hair straightening like chemical relaxing can also create problems if proper procedure is not followed.

Inadequate diet

Taking up crash diets for rapid weight loss may lead to hair loss. Such diets are low in protein, vitamins and minerals, thus causing malnutrition.

Abnormal eating habits lacking important nutrients can also result into hair loss.

Hair Loss Solutions - How To Help Stop Hair Loss And Regrow Hair

Monday, 27 April 2009

Hair loss and male-pattern baldness is an affliction suffered by thousands of men, and can be a real source of insecurity and embarrassment for those not ready to lose their hair or shave their head. Even worse, and more devastating are the younger cases where the hair loss process begins long before a man even reaches his thirtieth birthday. So what are your options if you are one of these men, uncontrollably losing your hair before your time?

Well, you can do what many others do – shave your head for the sake of uniformity. Lots of men look great with a shaved head – it just fits their personality and style, and they seem comfortable that way. For those unwilling to give up on their hair, there are hairpieces or plugs, neither of which have been perfected to the point of being undetectable, and both having a societal stigma as being somewhat tacky and undesirable.

The other option, of course, is to try one of the hair loss products that several reputable manufacturers now offer, both in prescription and nonprescription form. While there is still no “magic pill” that can unflinchingly promise every man (and woman) who takes it will re-grow their hair, there are some very promising and effective hair loss products and treatments currently on the market and also in development.

Propecia, Rogaine (Monoxadil), Avacor and Proxiphen are just a few of the top prescription and nonprescription hair loss products on the market today, and they’ve all had varying degrees of success in re-growing their client’s hair. Since the demand for hair loss products is so great, there have been many non-prescription hair loss alternatives recently introduced in an effort to offer men (and women) a more economical and convenient alternative to re-grow hair and prevent further hair loss.

There are also several vitamins that have been specially formulated both for thinning hair and to promote the speedy growth of healthy, shiny hair. Vitamins for thinning hair and faster hair growth and re-growth are usually a varying combination of several key amino acids, biotin, vitamins B6 and E, and zinc. Many who take vitamins of this nature do report thicker, more lustrous and healthy hair, but if your goal is to actually re-grow hair and not just thicken thinning hair, then you would probably want to consider a more serious hair loss supplement or treatment that specifically targets balding and hair loss.

Here's a little tip to help stimulate hair growth – massage the scalp. This is an age-old hairstylist tip to help stimulate the hair follicles, unclog any blocked oil glands in the scalp, and help promote a healthy scalp and new, healthy hair growth. Plus, it’s relaxing and it feels good, so it’s not such a chore!

Hair loss supplements can range from pricey to reasonable, tested and untested, and clinically proven vs. not clinically proven. You have to use good judgment and do a little homework on the internet, or by reading consumer reviews, testimonials and surveys to see what really should work best for your situation. Some even offer money back guarantees or some sort or money back for unused portions.

Now, let’s talk about being proactive in preventing future hair loss. Many times, the underlying cause for premature hair loss and male pattern balding is hereditary, but it can also be brought on by a hormonal imbalance of the male or female hormones, known as androgens and estrogens. Correcting a hormonal imbalance many times can stop hair loss. This example can be seen in women who notice hair loss shortly after they’ve had a baby. The cause for this is a drop in hormones that kept much more hair on the head than normal during pregnancy because the levels of this hormone are unusually high at this time.

Some medications can also cause or aggravate hair loss. Typically these medications are blood thinners, gout medication, chemotherapy medications for cancer, too much vitamin A, birth control pills and antidepressants. Avoid tight or “pulling” hairstyles like high or tight ponytails and cornrows, and also stay away from harsh chemical treatments such as perms and other potentially volatile, damaging hair treatments.

Typical hair loss treatments, prescription and nonprescription, usually take about six months before you can tell they are working, so patience is a must. There is no overnight fix to hair loss unfortunately. As long as you are comfortable with your chosen hair loss remedy, and have planned a preventative and maintenance course of action, that’s really all that matters.

3. The myth - You may have male pattern baldness only if your mother side of the family has a history of balding.

The truth - It has been proven that male and female hair loss can be inherited by both sides of the family.

4. The myth – hair cuts make the hair grow faster

The truth – All seen hair is in fact dead tissues. Hair cuts only cuts the hair to where the hair shaft is thicker. You may get the illusion that cutting the hair actually makes it thicker but the hair follicles are not influenced by it.

5. The myth – Wearing a hat or using a towel to dry it may stimulate hair loss

The truth – Pulling your hair strongly may in some cases affect hair loss. Yet, wearing hats or using a towel over your head will not stimulate hair loss.

6. The myth - Stress may cause permanent hair loss

The truth – In some cases, stress may only cause temporary hair loss.

7. The myth – Drinking and smoking do not affect hair loss

The truth – Smoking, drinking and other bad habits such as bad diet may stimulate hair loss processes.

Laser Hair Therapy puts the Brakes on Hair Loss

Thursday, 30 April 2009

Laser Hair Therapy has been around for a while, but to Americans it is relatively a new concept. If you polled a roomful of men about it, chances are they wouldn’t know what Laser Hair Loss Therapy was, much less what it could do for them. In that same room full of men, it would be a good guess that at least 60% of them could benefit from Laser Hair Therapy.

What is it? Laser Hair Therapy is a hair loss treatment method used mostly in hair restoration clinics and by dermatologists that utilizes low light laser energy to dramatically thicken, and in many cases, re-grows lost hair. Many men who suffer from hair loss use products such as Propecia or other topical products to re-grow their hair; the problem is that these products, while they are somewhat effective, can have side effects. Medical procedures such as transplanting hair carry with them their own problems; mostly the serious expense and the iffy results. So what’s a guy to do who’s noticing a drain-full of his hair every time he showers? The answer? Laser Hair Therapy for Men.

First, let’s explore what causes Hair Loss in the first place. It hardly seems fair but men in particular seem to be doomed to experience significant hair loss at some point in their lives. Most men resignedly believe baldness is their destiny. If you look at your parent’s hair, you may have a good idea of when your own hair may go. But what causes it? Scientists have been exploring this dilemma for decades. They fought it with snake oil and creams, then wigs and hairpieces when all else failed. But today, scientists understand more about what causes men to lose their hair.

Most often, there is a genetic component to male pattern hair loss. Hair follicles in the scalp have their own little time clocks. At a certain point in a man’s life, the regular cycle of hair growth, resting phase, shedding and regrowth responds to some kind of trigger within the hair follicle itself. This response is instigated by lowering levels of hormones; testosterone, specifically and the resulting over-production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT prohibits the absorption of essential proteins and calcium into the root of the hair follicle. When this happens, the root weakens. It may grow back for a few cycles, but you’ll notice your hair getting thinner and weaker. Soon, that follicle cannot support the growth of another hair and gives up. When your scalp should be replacing everything you just shed into the drain, it fails to do so. Scientists who study hair loss have discovered that this whole process can be dramatically altered by the use of low light laser therapy.

Low light Laser Hair Therapy is effective for increasing the blood circulation around the hair follicles and clearing the way for nutrients to reach the root again. Refreshed blood flow can also remedy problems like itchy or flaky scalp or over-active sebaceous glands that can interfere with re-growth. Laser Hair Therapy, applied for 20 to 30 minute intervals, several times a week, routinely produces a significant change in hair quality of close to 90% of those who tried it. With Laser Hair Loss Therapy, men find that their hair grows in thicker and stronger. The thin, scalp-showing wafts of hair fill in and regain their old bounce and character. Not only that, but also many men have seen those areas that seemed to have given up the fight begin to re-grow, too. Though many see results within a few weeks, for others, full results from Laser Hair Therapy will take between six months to a year.

Robert Lassup, a Los Angeles contractor, was doubtful anything could turn his hair loss around. He was only thirty, but he’d been losing hair since he turned twenty-six. The worst part for him was the stigma of losing his hair so young. It made him feel older than his years. Looking the way he did, he felt that he couldn’t compete in the dating market and even job interviewers looked doubtful when he told them his age. He tried medications, but they didn’t do much. He worried about what else they might be doing to him. So he quit using them. Hair systems definitely weren’t for him. But when he heard about Laser Hair Therapy, and that men in Europe had been using it successfully for years, he decided he had nothing to lose in trying it.

The Laser Hair Therapy Clinic he went to assured him that the lasers they would use were “cool lasers”. There would be no pain involved. In fact, they told him that standing in front of a microwave for two minutes would pose more of a danger than thirty minutes under low light Laser Hair Loss Therapy. Robert felt hopeful for the first time in years as he noticed his hair begin to respond right away. His hair loss stopped and his hair grew noticeably thicker and began to fill in around his hairline. He did, in fact re-grow some of the hair that he thought was gone forever. But even more important, he regained his self-confidence. “Even I didn’t understand how much my hair loss was affecting me,” Robert says now. “I realized as my hair circled that drain, I had stopped showing up for my own life. Getting my hair back with Laser Hair Therapy made me feel like myself again. I intend to make the most of it.”

Female Pattern Hair Loss: What Causes Hair Loss In Women?

Thursday, 14 May 2009

There exists a widespread connotation that hair loss is greatly prevalent among males. But this connotation could be defied with the fact that even a good number of women suffer from hair loss. Although it's not that easy to ascertain exact causes of hair loss among women there are two or three popular reasons attributed to hair loss among them.

Despite widespread hair loss among women, very rarely they happen to be bald. Even women don't show complete disappearance of hairs from one particular part of scalp that usually happens with males. A woman normally experiences evenly distributed hair loss from scalp that means hairs fall from all parts of scalps, most likely in equal proportion.

Some of the common causes of female hair loss are:

Androgenetic Alopacea

It is a phenomenon inside the female body in which testosterone (male hormone), which is present in women in dormant state, undergoes chemical reactions to form DHT. This DHT affects hair follicles, their normal functioning, hair regeneration and growth, resulting in hair loss and female baldness in the later stages. However female hormones resist its effect to prevent complete baldness.

Alopacea Areata

It is an uneven type of hair loss that may be due to various deficiencies in the body. These deficiencies could be due to lesser intake of required nutrients and vitamins. As less than required intake of essential body minerals and vitamins weakens immune system. With a weakened immune system hair follicles are less likely to fight with disrupting factors giving a way to temporary follicle dysfunction. It in turn results in hair loss.

Telogen Effluvium

This is a condition in which women suffer hair loss due to unexpected shock or stress and extreme emotional imbalances. Usually an unanticipated stress situation gives way to short term depression that adversely affects hair. In that period sharp hair loss is witnessed. Most often women conceiving baby for the first time experiences this type of hair fall. A woman fired from work place or divorce could be other reasons of Telogen Effluvium.

These three are primary reasons of hair loss in women. Apart from that a woman may experience hair loss due to genetic causes as well as some medications may also result in hair loss as a side effect.

Conquering Hair Loss May No Longer Be Impossible

Conquering hair loss and restoring lost hair is to many hair loss patients a distant dream. However, there are existing options for replacing lost hair and some of them may seem surprisingly effective even to the most sceptical hair loss sufferer. The three main methods of hair restoration include surgical hair restoration, non-surgical hair replacement and therapies for reversing hair loss using pills and topicals. The principal technique of surgical hair restoration today is hair transplant surgery, whereas wigs, hairpieces, hair loss concealers and hair thickeners are the most popular aids used to replace the lost hair by non-surgical means. The non-surgical cover-up is clearly the quickest and the least expensive method of replacing lost hair, though not too popular, as many people believe that wigs and concealers cannot withstand rain and wind and do not appear natural. In spite of this common prejudice, some of them are extremely resistant to external influences and can look very authentic. Wigs and concealers are often the only remaining option of restoring lost hair for people suffering from non-hereditary forms of hair loss such as unpredictable alopecia areata.

Surgical hair restoration is the most expensive method of restoring lost hair but also the most elegant and lasting solution. It can only be used in people suffering from hereditary baldness and burn patients. Candidates must have sufficient hair density at the back of their scalp and many women suffering from female form of hair loss with its typical diffuse balding pattern do not meet this condition. Hair restoration surgery has made great strides in the past twenty years with the introduction of the two main techniques used today - follicular unit transplantation (FUT) and, more recently, follicular unit extraction (FUE). These advances in hair transplantation techniques enable the grouping of hairs very densely together, which gives modern hair transplants an entirely natural look. The main weakness of hair transplant surgery, besides the cost and the pain involved, is the limited supply of donor hair and the need for multiple surgeries to achieve the final desired change. Furthermore, patients have to commit themselves to the use of finasteride or any other adequate medicinal hair loss treatment for the rest of their lives to prevent further loss of hair.

Hair loss pills and topical applications do not, despite major scientific advances and the discoveries of recent years, provide satisfactory hair restoration results yet. The two most frequently prescribed hair loss drugs, finasteride and topical minoxidil, can be effectively used in many male patients to reduce hair loss but their ability to regrow lost hair is weak. Their effectiveness declines significantly in the later stages of the balding process. There is no existing medicinal or natural hair loss remedy that can deliver adequate visual results comparable to either hair transplant surgery or non-surgical hair replacements such as hairpieces and hair loss concealers. Although there are some promising medicinal hair loss drugs currently being developed, specifically in the area of genetic research, the ultimate pill for baldness is not expected to become commercially available within the next fifteen years. Other advances in hair science, such as hair multiplication or the generation of new hair follicles in wounds of hair-free skin, also hold out solid promise but it appears that hair transplantation will in the next ten to fifteen years remain the most complete method of hair restoration.

Identify the Level of Male Pattern Hair Loss by Using the Hamilton-Norwood Scale

Saturday, 30 July 2011

The Hamilton-Norwood scale is a standard measurement scale of male pattern baldness, which ranges from stages I to VII. (The higher the number, the more advanced the loss). It was initially introduced by Dr. James Hamilton in the 1950s and later revised and updated by Dr. O'Tar Norwood in the 1970s.

We can use the Hamilton-Norwood scale to categorize the level of male pattern baldness. It's one of the easiest ways to determine how far along you may be with hair loss and what you can expect if left untreated. May be this scale is not a perfect way of measuring baldness, but it is the most common and widely recognised way available so far.

THE RATE OF HAIR LOSS

The rate at which men lose hair is very independent. It can begin in your teens, 20s, or 30s. Usually 50% of men will experience some degree of hair loss by the age of 30, but some men will lose their hair very rapidly in their 20's and come to stage 3 or stage 4 and stay at that point for the rest of their lives. Other men can have no detectable amount of hair loss until they are in their 50's, only to advance to a stage 6 or stage 7 in just a few short years.

Normally if the individual begins to thin early in life there is a very good chance that he is destined for a great deal of hair loss. The family history is an important indicator that we can study to possibly help determine how far hair loss will advance, look at both sides of your parents, especially any older males: your grandfathers, father, uncle, brothers, etc.

2 MAIN TYPES OF HAIR LOSS : ANTERIOR AND VERTEX

Men typically losing their hair in 2 main types, first are receding at the temples, we call it Anterior (front), and the other is on the top back of the head known as Vertex (back).

As we can see from the chart clearly, from Stage 1 to Stage 2 is mild, only slightly recession of the hairline and the central front part of the scalp become less dense. Prevention is better than cure, early detection of hair loss problems means that you can start the treatments at the early stage and more likely you are to get back a full head of hair if you follow the proper recommendations.

From Stage 3 to Stage 4 is moderate, hair loss is clearly visible. The hairline move deeper to the back compare to Stage 2 with bald spot grows larger. It is the crucial moment, and you should take more aggressive action to save your hair. Without treatments, the conditions would become worse!

Finally from Stage 5 to Stage 7 is severe, basically any topical or medication will not effective much in these two stages, but you should look at it a different perspective, there are still some solutions available, you can consider: hair transplant, hair weaving, Wearing hats or wigs, Do the bald look!

Hair Loss Causes: What Is Thyroid Hair Loss?

Saturday, 1 August 2009

Hair loss often starts undetected and predated on us like a wolf. And then one fine day we look into the mirror and are taken aback by what the mirror reflects back. We are left wondering as to when and how did the hairline, withdraw like cowardly troops!

So, if you are losing hair for no apparent reason whatsoever, the cause could be a thyroid condition. Though the most common causes for hair loss are genetic predetermination, medical treatments, medicines and hormonal changes, but they are not the only ones responsible. Among the other is thyroid condition.

Thyroid hair loss manifests itself in cases of hypothyroidism. This kind of hair loss can be easily distinguished from male pattern balding. Because, unlike male pattern baldness there is no bald patches caused but there is a uniform thinning of hair all over the head.

Those who suffer from hypothyroidism experience dry skin and fatigue. They also become abnormally sensitive to cold and suffer from depression and constipation. Therefore, if you have any of these symptoms and are losing hair, you must have yourself tested for thyroid condition.

Synthroid is the most common prescription medicine used for hypothyroidism. The medicine can cause hair loss as a side effect. So, if you are taking it, you should discuss the possibility of its causing the hair loss.

There are a few supplements available in the market including primrose oil supplements which can help check thyroid hair loss. Aromatherapy too works with some.

Some of the Ayurvedic medicines like brahmi amla oil and bhringaraj oil can also help. These oils are applied on the scalp gently. A regular application of it for three months or more helps hair growth.

If nothing works, the final remedy is hair transplantation. Little hair plugs are taken from the back of one's scalp and are planted on the bald areas. It takes a few months before you see your bald scalp growing your own natural hair. The procedure, however, is quite expensive, but is worth every penny you spend to get rid of the depressing condition.

A good cover of hair is the crown we are too much in love to do without. So, if it goes away, get it back.

HairMax LaserComb: An Ultimate Answer to Hair Loss

Tuesday, 19 July 2011

Hair loss, for many people, is not a demoralising condition. However, many men and women who have encountered hair loss can become very anxious and embarrassed about the condition. Androgenic alopecia is a common type hair loss in men. This hair condition is more commonly known as male pattern baldness.

Though there is no specific age that people experience hair loss, but timely treatment can help to slow down the process. At any given time the human head has more than 100,000 strands of hair, and about 100 of these hairs shed every day. When we look at the average growth cycle of a hair, it is about 2-6 years, after which a new hair grows and replaces the old one. So the next time you find loose hairs on your pillow after waking up in the morning, there may be no reason to panic too much because, generally, the hair that is lost is replaced with a new one.

What causes hair fall?

It is a well know fact that each strand of hair is rooted in a follicle, which is a tiny sac in the scalp. If we talk specifically about male pattern baldness, the hair follicles develop sensitivity to a male hormone known as dihydrotestosterone (DHT). As a result, the follicles shrink in their sizes and are not able to hold the hair. It also affects the scalp's ability to grow new hair. This leads to a pattern of hair loss which starts receding hairline at the temple.

Laser combs: An ultimate solution for hair loss

In the past, laser therapy was only used for removal of unwanted hair. But over time, it was discovered that by adjusting the strength of the laser, you can encourage and enhance the natural growth of the hair. The lasers can strengthen the damaged hair follicles to recover their functions in the same way it can heal soft tissue wounds by promoting blood flow to the area. The HairMax LaserComb is an innovative product among a number of hair loss products on the market that ensures an effective treatment of hair loss problems. It is basically a sleek handheld comb that stimulates hair follicles increasing cellular metabolism and the development of capillaries (minute blood vessels) in the scalp. This ultimately increases the circulation of the blood to the scalp, which brings essential nutrients to the hair follicles. As a result, the follicles become capable of growing thicker and richer hair.

How to use the HairMax LaserComb?

Using a HairMax comb is as easy as combing hair. You simply have to turn on the laser button to get it started. Place the laser comb on your scalp and glide its 2 rows of teeth as though combing your hair. You need to glide it back half an inch each time until a 4-second beep is heard. In the same way, you can use this laser comb for the hairs at the back of your head. The FDA has approved The hairMax LaserComb Advanced 7, The hairMax LaserComb Lux 9 and hairMax LaserComb professional 12 to be used by both men and women for the treatment of their hair loss.

Female Hair Loss - Checklist For Helping To Determining Cause

Tuesday, 13 December 2011

Loss of Hair

All people have a normal loss of hair of about 50 to and 150 strands a day. When these strands fall out they naturally grow back. But there is no need to count the hair strands everyday, if you have a condition that is causing excessive loss of hair you will see excess hair in your brush, sink, towel, pillow or even as in my case, your spouse will tell you have excess loss of hair.

If you are losing more hair than normal then there is some underlying condition causing it.

Reasons for loss of hair in women:

Stress - Hair loss from this condition may be caused by an emotional or physical event in your life. An important point to note is that you may not notice your loss from this condition till two to three months after the event. But once you have got past the event that caused your stress, your hair will most likely grow back six to nine months later.

But there is a condition called alopecia areata, caused by stress, which will cause your hair to fall out in patches. This is caused by your immune system attacking your hair follicles resulting in partial or total hair loss. If you have this condition your hair may grow back naturally or you may even need treatment.

Medicines - There are all different types of medicines that can cause you to lose your hair, from birth control pills to acne medication may cause hair loss. Like in stress, your hair will go into sleep mode and you will not notice this loss till two to three months after you start taking a new drug.

Working with your doctor, you may be asked to stop or switch drugs till you find out which one is causing the problem. This may take several months or more, depending on how many drugs you are taking, to determine which drug is causing the problem.

Thyroid - A malfunctioning thyroid is more common in women than in men. When this happens many different conditions such as weight gain, loss of energy, hair loss or your hair becoming dry and brittle are some of the symptoms of a thyroid gone wrong.

If you are diagnosis with a thyroid problem, discuss with your doctor the right drug for you to help with your thyroid problem and ensure it does not cause any more loss of hair.

Female Pattern Baldness (FPB) - This is the most common type of hair loss in women. This condition is identifiable by determining if either of your parents have pattern baldness, your hair loss started when you approached or are in menopause, or you have some other condition causing a hormone imbalance in your body.
